[TLUG] about apache

         I have got a problem!!!
Environment:
Server side:
  System: RedHat 6.0 kernel 2.2.15
  WWW: Apache-1.3.6
Cilent:
  Windows 98SE (IE4, NS4)

I am building a ftp site for local use!
The question is:
   filea.exe     66.0MB (Compressed file)
   filea.exe.gz 66.1MB (using gzip filea.exe)
  While I  download a  file using http://ftpsite/filea.exe
using time: 250 sec
My browser prompt  Download->copy->done! (??? Why Copy )
  While I  download a  file using http://ftpsite/filea.exe.gz      using
time: 130 sec
My browser prompt  Download->done!

what can I do?
my /etc/mime.types seems ok!
